Think twice before you act

On the fateful day of 19th Sept 2012, the selected PT/GT candidate has taken their plight to street, as was expected! Of course rallies and bandhs has uninvitedly become part of Naga culture and therefore the so called selected candidates parading in the street is in no way surprising. Yet, what caught my attention was their placards and banners which reads, ‘Trained means not for direct appointment’, ‘classroom are where we belong, not streets’, ‘children are anxiously waiting for us’ ‘ Your silence deprived the right of the successful candidates and the students’ etc.

When I see such placards and banner, the first question that comes to my mind is “How many hands amongst you are clean”? No doubt; there are some candidates who have been selected purely on merit basis. I do respect those candidates and pray that you’ll get what you deserve at the earliest. Nevertheless, I bet, many (Perhaps even majority) has been selected through, money power or compassion. That is an open secret. Now the big question is, How could one go corrupted in a street first, as an educated person and secondly, as a Christian? That is like a daylight robbery! I was really shocked at how the conscience of an educated Christian permits them to fight for corruption in an open street? Indeed, it is really disheartening!

History has condemned Varna system for its many evils. In the Brahmin dominated Varna society, ‘birth’ not ‘merit’ was the order. I am afraid that the present Naga society is also moving towards the line of Varna system; all the privileges in the society are being grabbed by the high-rich classes. In fact in our present Naga society, with money everything becomes possible. For instance a life-times sweat and toil could be easily bought by some lakhs of rupees…… they say ‘money speaks’! Of course, I do respect your money power but what will become of our society if we start studying just for namesake and instead start making money to buy job(s)? In my opinion, ’Merit, not money should be the basis of selection’.

No offence but even the church fathers respect and pray more for those who drops more into offering box (Kit) unmindful of the source it come from. They even say that ‘Those who are rich can serve God better’, which to me is a totally wrong conception. It is also funny that some people secretly buy job and openly seek for prayer support in a church or prayer meeting, while others accepts cash and gifts and thank God for blessing them! Indeed, our present Naga society is little different from Medieval European society, where the Catholic Pope and Bishops started issuing ‘Certificate to Heaven’ to rich people!

Yes, I was also one of the candidates who were not selected; humbly I have accepted defeat. But there are also some candidates who are no better than us. We are also no fools! Some of our friends who have been selected have admitted themselves that their interview was just for granted, while some of them have admitted to bribery. So, when everyday knows black and white, why make mockery of yourself by parading in the street? It is like a prostitute saying “I am still virgin”.

If The selected candidate really think they have perform better than others or if you really got through your hard labor, than you should also excelled in other competitive exams with us, then only we’ll respect you……You may justify your position by saying that teaching is your ‘aim in life’ that I bet not even one percent amongst you have teaching as your first preference

Last but not the least, I am neither against anybody, not even selected candidates nor am I fighting for the post. Friendly speaking most of us (including selected, candidate looks upon it as a backup job. But what I am fighting for is against the system i.e. corruption! Let “Merit” be the basis of selection!
