Thirteen penalised under COTPA in Wokha

Wokha, May 27 (MExN): The Wokha COTPA flying squad team has penalised 13 defaulters Under COTPA Section 6A and 6B for selling tobacco products and seized the tobacco products from the shops falling within the restricted areas. The defaulters were penalised (Violators under COTPA Sec 6B) with a fine of Rs 200, stated a DIPR report. 

The COTPA flying squad team led by O/C, Wokha PS, along with the staff of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), representatives from District Administration (DBs), Lotha Student’s Union led by its President Lirhonthung Kithan, Women Police personnel Wokha, made the seizure during the enforcement drive on selling of tobacco products in and around educational institutions on May 27.

The team will be frequently conducting such kind of raid in coming days also. Further shopkeepers were directed to abide by the COTPA Act, and warned that necessary legal action shall be initiated as per the provision of the Law.

The seized tobacco products were destroyed the same day at the Police Station, Wokha premises in the presence of all the squad members.
