Thongsonyu Village claims dissolution of VC

TUENSANG, APRIL 14 (MExN): The Thongsonyu Village Public Organization, through a press note issued by its president today informed the general public that the Thongsonyu Village Council had been dissolved as per the order of the Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, dated November 30, 2006 and the ADC Noklak dated February, 2007. The note stated that the order was to remain in effect until further order from the DC, Tuensang and added that any correspondence or payment for development activities concerning the village should not be made through the VC. The organization further stated that the VC, Thongsonyu had no authority for village administration and the release of VDB fund should be stopped immediately.

However, the Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Abhijit Sinha, on being contacted denied any knowledge the order. “I have never issued any such order from my side” exclaimed Sinha, who is presently on leave. The DC further revealed that there had been some differences in the village from a group of people who had settled a little further away from the village and were unsatisfied with the original village council. Sinha, however said that while a complaint had been made by the new public organization and he had forwarded it to the ADC Noklak, no order for the dissolution of the village council had been made. Articulating that one could not simply dissolve a village council the DC said that the TVPO should produce some proof like a letter from him to this effect rather than merely claiming the dissolution.
