Three held for extortion

Dimapur, June 3 (MExN): Kohima North Police arrested three FGN “non-accordist” cadres today for collecting so-called “20% annual professional tax” from taxis from the ‘sumo parking’ lot in Keziekie colony, Kohima. According to the police, the extortionists have been identified as one “tatar” Athing Konyak, 40 years, of Tamulung village in Longleng, “ss joint secretary to C&C” Ruzhuseperry alias Rüzhüse, 28 years, of Phokungri village in Meluri sub-division, Phek and “ss captain” Senchumo Ezung alias Mark, 35 years, of Mungya village in Wokha. The police said the three have been habitually collecting the so-called “annual professional tax” from the taxis and when the collection became too frequent, an inquiry was made. Public members and the people at the parking lot caught hold of the three and handed them over to North police, the repot said. Incriminating items including list of vehicles and their numbers, FGN receipts and booklets were confiscated from the accused, the police report said.
