Dimapur, January 25 (MExN): The Dimapur Police during the last fortnight has arrested three persons on charges of extortion,possession of illegal firearms and drugs.
In a press note received here, the Addl. Dy Commissioner of Police/PRO, Dimapur informed that the arrests were made in two separate occasions.
The first arrest was made by patrol section of B/11 NAP(IR) from the Blue Hill Area, Dimapur when one person identified as Atoka Achumi, reportedly a ‘Sgt Major’ of the NSCN(R), was nabbed extorting money in the vicinity on January 15. One .32 pistol with 5 live rounds was seized from his possession, the police added.
In another case, the patrol section of the C/13 NAP (IR) arrested one person from Rail Bazaar for illegal possession of a .22 pistol with one live round. The PRO release identified the accused as Temsuliba Jamir, reportedly a ‘Major’ of GPRN/NSCN.
Meanwhile, one person identified as Babul Ali from Morigaon District, Assam was arrested from the Dimapur Railway Station on January 23 for possession of 65 tablets of Ativan (sedative).
The sedatives were used to lace the drinks and eatables of the passengers in the trains and thereafter, loot them while sedated, the police said. Investigation on the matter is under progress,
Police recover vehicles, four arrested
The Dimapur police have also recovered two vehicles and arrested 4 persons for various vehicle related crimes in the past fortnight around Dimapur.
According to the police, the first arrest was made when it seized a Toyota Etios car bearing Assam Registration number on the verge of disposing discreetly to claim false insurance on January 23.
In this connection, the owner of the vehicle identified as Monaranjan Kalita along with two others Karan Das and Netash Majumdar, all residents of Dibrugarh, Assam were arrested.
According to the police, they were in the process of discreetly disposing off the vehicle when arrested.
The vehicle which was brought under bank finance with first party insurance was meant to be sold off illegally by the owner in connivance with the others, the police maintianed adding that a false lost report was to be lodged with the police once the transaction was done.
In a separate occasion, one person identified as Jalaluddin of Thoubal District Manipur, suspected to be a professional vehicle lifter, was arrested while he was caught trying to steal a motorcycle on January 24.
The police said 28 sets of different motorcycle keys were also recovered from his possession.
Meanwhile, a Toyota Innova Car, reportedly hijacked from Assam on January 16 was recovered by Dimapur Police on January 21. The vehicle was found plying within the city and fled on being chased by the police, the PRO release informed adding that it was later found abandoned in the nearby vicinity. The vehicle was handed over to Dibrugarh Police under whose jurisdiction a case has been registered, it added.
