Maligaon, July 17 (MExN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday virtually inaugurated three redeveloped railway stations in Assam and West Bengal as part of the nationwide rollout of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), while also flagging off India’s first hydrogen-powered train.

The three stations – Majbat in Rangiya Division (Assam), and Jalpaiguri Road and Haldibari in Alipurduar and Katihar Divisions respectively (West Bengal) – were among 75 stations dedicated to the nation today. The cumulative redevelopment cost for the three stations is approximately Rs. 71 crore.

In a separate event, the Prime Minister flagged off the country's first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonipat. Themed as the "NaMo Green Rail," the train marks a major milestone in India's push towards clean and sustainable transportation.

At Majbat Railway Station, the inaugural programme was attended by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Transport Minister Charan Boro, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries Minister Nilima Devi, and Tangla MLA Bikan Chandra Deka. Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava and other senior officials were also present.

The Jalpaiguri Road station ceremony was graced by Union Minister of State for Education and Development of North Eastern Region Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, West Bengal Labour & Transport Minister Arjun Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Nagendra Ray, and Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha MP Dr. Jayanta Kumar Roy, along with senior officers of the Alipurduar Division. Dr. Roy also attended the function at Haldibari station, alongside senior officials of the Katihar Division and NFR.

The redeveloped stations feature modern buildings and passenger amenities, including Divyangjan-friendly facilities, aimed at providing safer and more accessible travel. Authorities said the upgraded infrastructure is expected to boost regional connectivity, promote tourism and trade, and act as a catalyst for socio-economic development in the surrounding regions.
