Thunder squalls expected over the next few days: NSDMA

Kohima, May 19 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department in coordination with the IMD, Regional Office, Guwahati issued weather updates with regard to Cyclone ‘Amphan.’


It said that the state of Nagaland will not be directly impacted by the storm, however scattered rain and thundershowers particularly during evening and night will be a common feature for next few days.


It also predicted a spike in the weather activity over Nagaland gradually from May 20 onwards, lasting till May 28-31. Thunder squalls with severe lightning are also expected during this period, it said.


In this regard, all the DDMAs and other line departments engaged in emergency response have been requested to be on alert during this period. 


The NSDMA meanwhile requested the public to be vigilant of lightning, gusty winds and thunderstorms and advised against taking shelter under large trees and near the river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and flash floods.
