Tight security as Chidambaram prepares visit to Naga areas in Manipur

Imphal | November 1 : Ahead of the two-day visit of Union Minister P Chidambaram to Manipur, tight security arrangement has also been taken up in Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul districts where the Union minister will inaugurate newly constructed government office buildings and other installations during the trip.
Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul and his officials have rushed to Jessami village in the district, about 118 km from Ukhrul headquarters for the purpose, sources said. During his two-day trip to the state on Wednesday at 11:30am Chidambaram will inaugurate SDO and SDPO office complex, a Public Health Centre building and a 132 KV power sub-station at Jessami village, bordering Nagaland.
Prior to the Ukhrul district trip, the Union minister will arrive here from New Delhi by a special BSF helicopter and will land at Kangla here at 9:50 am. From Kangla he will be flown to Senapati district headquarters by a MI-17 helicopter where he will inaugurate the Senapati Mini Secretariat and a 50-bedded district hospital.
The Union home minister, on the next day on November 3 at 8 am, will leave Imphal for Tamei and Tousem sub-divisions in Tamenglong district where he will inaugurate two 33/11 KV sub stations at the two sub divisions. He will then inaugurate Tamenglong Mini Secretariat complex at 10:25am and the newly constructed Jawahar Navodiya Vidyalaya at Tamenglong district head quarters.
 He will also address a public meeting at the Tamenglong public ground. He will later fly back to Imphal at 1:30 pm and will leave Imphal at 1:35 pm. During the visit, Chidambaram will be accompanied by Union Home Secretary RK Singh and Joint Secretary (Home Affairs) northeast in-charge Sambhu Singh, official sources said.
