“Now is the time to heal ourselves and our society where corruption and division has fully infested every fabric of the society,” declared Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Secretary LRD & Finance, Government of Nagaland while addressing introductory session of the General Conference of Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK) on December 12.
The 3-day 48th General Conference of Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK) is underway at Zutovi village under Dimapur district under the theme, ‘Akughupu Tuqhudo’ (Defining Moment).
Addressing the gathering, Kikheto who graced the occasion as the special guest said that the SKK mission of ‘Doing Right’ and its Clean Election Campaign was aptly related to the conference theme, ‘Defining Moment.’
With SKK at the forefront in the Clean Election Campaign, Kikheto urged the students to make election within the students’ union clean. “Election within your Union will define the moment of how and where SKK stands on Doing Right,” he said. He expressed optimism that things would gradually fall into its proper place when people speak the truth and frankly share their views.
Extracting a passage from the Bible, Proverbs 29:18, “when there is no vision the people perish” he underscored the need for visionary people to lead the Nagas. Kikheto called for a stop to division on the lines of tribe, clan and so on, if the society has to positively progress.
Kikheto pointed out that with 1.40 lakh employees and government spending around Rs 5000 crores annually on salary, economic condition of the people could be decent if the money was circulated within the state. However, he rue that the money was going outside since there was no work culture among the Naga society.
Delivering greetings, Western Sumi Hoho President, Zheshito Swu advised students to be careful about usage of social media as it has both merits and demerits. He also encouraged the students to get habituated to speaking and writing in Sumi dialect within the community.
Thousands of students from 17 units under SKK are attending the conference. Pastor, Zutovi Baptist Church, Rev Shitovi Swu invoked God’s blessing while ‘Ato Kukau’ (Head GB), Zutovi Village delivered the welcome address.
