Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome IAS has lamented on the infiltration of politics and personal agenda in running the affairs of educational institutions in the state.

He was addressing a strong gathering of government school teachers, members of School Management Committees and School Management and Development Committees under Kuda & Dhansiripar at Kuda Youth Hall, Nagarjan, Dimapur where Community Mobilization programme for District Mission Authority – Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Dimapur was held on Tuesday.

“Educational sector is supposed to groom and mould children in their formative years but people do not seem very worried about it,” Kesonyu said and added that leaders were worried whether they would be able to retain themselves as the chairmen of various committees in schools.

He said it was time to stop blame game and revive the education sector by prioritizing it. The DC pointed out that parents choose to send their child to private run institutions which spoke volumes about the decimating quality education in the state.

He said the 80% literacy rate of Nagaland does not in any way reflect on the quality education adding, “we are yet to start as far as quality education is concerned.”

Kesonyu impressed upon the community to take equal and moral responsibility by addressing issues confronting the education sector.

Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO), Dimapur, R. Amongla Jamir admitted that the achievement of government schools have been low despite the number of facilities provided by the centre. “The targets have not been achieved and enrolment is declining instead of increasing and authorities are thinking that we are not doing our part,” she said and appealed for community support and participation in delivering quality education to students.

She denounced the practise of some SMC chairmen remaining in the same position without giving chance to others even if they have run out of ideas to run the school.

Amongla urged upon teachers to put in all efforts to diligently deliver their services to the schools and contribute their part to the society.

The DDEO informed that there were 3594 teachers for 49273 students in 291 government schools including primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools in Dimapur. She also informed that 3-4 non-functional government schools have been closed down in Dimapur.

During the training programme, speakers including Freda Angami, ADC-SSA and SSA Programme Assistants including Itwadu Thou, Vikali Shikhu, Solomon and others spoke on various topics.
