Parliamentary Secretary for Land Resources and Excise, B.S. Nganlang on Saturday made a clarion call to the people to understand whatever misunderstanding has taken place owing to issue of reservation in Urban Local Bodies.
“Human lives were lost, injured and government properties damaged with both the government and public at loss. Whatever misunderstanding has occurred, let us all try to understand each other. Let us start healing each other,” Nganlang said during the inauguration programme of Bangjak Phom Colony, Walford, Dimapur as the chief guest. He said the government was trying to bring normalcy and appealed the people to cooperate.
Speaking about Late Bangjak after whom the colony was named, Nganlang said the former was a “very decisive man” and was engaged in many critical issues when government found it difficult to find a way out. He further described Late Bangjak as a practical man who converts words into actions.
Nganlang paid rich tributes to him stating that the people were reaping fruits of his farsighted vision when he established the colony years back.
He appealed members of the colony to take personal responsibility of keeping their colony clean and hygienic.
Guest of honour, Tovihoto Ayemi, Parliamentary Secretary for Economics & Statistics, described the day as “historic” for people of the colony. He said it was time to acknowledge the contributions of Late Bangjak who was a leader of not only the Phom community but also Naga people.
Tovihoto said denizens of the colony should unite to take their colony forward at par with the rest of the colonies in the district. “You (colony people) deserve all basic facilities like healthcare, power etc and should be an example of one of the best colonies,” he added.
Tovihoto also added that the meaning of true secularism can be reflected in Dimapur where people from different communities and religions reside and appealed the people to co-exist peacefully.
Chairman, Bangjak Phom Colony Council, Pongtei Phom in his welcome address said that the residents of the colony comprised of various Naga tribes and people from outside the state.
