Meluri, May 15 (MExN): The Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) today endorsed the decision of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) for ‘indigenous Naga representation’ in the upcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections scheduled in Nagaland on June 26.
“The union stands in complete solidarity with the NSF on various issues raised under its umbrella, aiming to unite Nagas to safeguard the rights of the indigenous Naga community, specifically, and its identity in general,” stated a press release from PSU.
It further expressed appreciation to the NSF for “timely intervention” to protect and preserve the fate of the Nagas through these elections.
Affirming with the principle of “Nagas by blood, not by adoption,” the PSU also supported the exclusion of ‘women married to non-locals and their offspring, from contesting elections.’
Accordingly, the release issued by PSU President Rongley Leyri and General Secretary Sasietho urged its federating units to be ambassadors of change in response to the call of NSF.
The union also pledged its full support and cooperation in future to the NSF’s fight for the common cause of the Nagas.
