The time frame served by the Konyak Union (KU) to the Nagaland state government to settle matters with regard to a long delayed police station in Tiru, Mon district, has lapsed, yet again, without any action from the government.

Earlier, on February 15, the KU had asked the state government to operationalise the police station and set March 15 as the deadline. It was not the first, however. In the aftermath of the December 4, Oting incident, the demand for immediate activation of the said police station gained momentum.  The first deadline expired on December 14, 2021, which was followed by a reminder on December 28. But, as per the KU, the government has remained unresponsive.

The project for constructing the police station was sanctioned some 14-15 years ago. Land compensation issues with land owners had reportedly stalled construction with the government allegedly still to compensate the owners.

In the February 15 statement, the KU said that the Oting incident displayed the incompetence of law and order and the insincerity of the state government. The incident site would have fallen under the jurisdiction of the police station, if it was operational.

Meanwhile, KU officials, when contacted by The Morung Express informed that it would be sitting soon to deliberate on the unmet demand.
