Titans retain MDCA trophy

Mokokchung, January 15 (MExN): Titans Cricket Club today emerged as champions of the 25th MDCA Inter Club Cricket Tournament.  

In a hard-fought final match played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, Titans edged Sovran CC by 5 runs to win the MDCA trophy and becoming the first club to register three consecutive wins in the finals in the 25 MDCA tournaments played so far.   Opting to bat first having won the toss, Titans set a target of 118 runs losing all the wickets in 20 overs. Longsasunep contributed the highest score of 43 runs while Akumdong scored 27 runs for the Titans. Sovran bowler Michael claimed 4 rival wickets, while Thejasol and Wapang took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.   In the run chase, Sovrans came short by a margin of just 5 runs as they only managed to score 112 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Thejasol with 37 runs was the highest run scorer; Michael contributed 15 runs. Titans bowler Merenti scalped 2 Sovran wickets while Rohit, Ato Chang and Longsasunep claimed 1 wicket each.   Longsasunep was later adjudged man of the final match for his performance with both bat and ball. He was also adjudged Player of the Tournament and highest wicket taker for hauling 11 wickets in 5 matches. Nripen of Skylark was awarded the highest run scorer of the tournament having amassed 148 runs in 4 matches.   Champions Titans Cricket Club were awarded with certificates and cash prize along with the running trophy which they will get to keep for good having won it three consecutive times.
