Ukhrul, February 24 (MExN): The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) today expressed outrage at the Government of Manipur for “turning a blind eye” to the harassment of the executives of the Naga Students' Federation by the Manipur Police Commandos recently.
A press release from the TKS further alleged that the Manipur government had ‘turned a deaf ear’ to the memorandum submitted by the Federation. “The authorities have only exhibited that it is not at all bothered to even look into the incident and solve it at the earliest,” the student body maintained.
Stating that a seven-day time frame was given to the state government to look into the matter, TKS contended that “they have not budged an inch and have only let the situation escalate further”. “Such harassment cases are not only being perpetuated by the Manipur Police Commandos but the higher authorities, especially the state government have always looked the other way,” the Saklong maintained.
TKS argued that the Federation was compelled to resort to such extreme measures because of the “indifferent attitude” of the Manipur state government. “Any untoward incidences shall be the sole responsibility of the Government of Manipur,” the TKS stated.
Meanwhile, the Saklong has appealed to the public to restrain themselves and be cautious at the same time until the state government has ceded to the Federation's memorandum demands.
