‘Tobacco Free Village’ awareness programme in Longmisa village

Mokokchung, July 4 (MExN): District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Mokokchung under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) conducted awareness programme to prioritize promotion of ‘Tobacco Free Village’ in Longmisa village on July 4. 


On record the Longmisa Village Council with the help of Longmisa Baptist Arogo imposed a strict ban on sale of tobacco products within the village jurisdiction since 2018.


Applauding the initiative of the council and the church, District Consultant (DTCC) Mokokchung, Nukshiwati Longchar advocated the village council chairman and council members the importance of the ban on sale and consumption of paan, gutka, cigarette and other tobacco products and how spitting in public places increases the thread in spreading Covid-19 infections. He also reminded the order put out by the office of Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung regarding the consequences of paying fine if found spitting in public places. 


Moreover, DTCC Mokokchung have been actively carrying out the awareness programme on ban and consumption of tobacco products and its affects relating to COVID-19 through poster campaign in quarantine centers, District Hospital and market places around the town.
