Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that through the Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) and the Joint Parliamentary Working Committee (JPWC), the elected members of the state assembly have sent out a clear message of unity, reconciliation and oneness to all sections of the Naga society.
In his concluding speech on the budget in the absence of the Opposition Congress who staged a walkout this evening, Rio said that the government’s role of facilitator has taken a new dimension and has also sent out a ‘message of hope’ that different political parties can rise above their differences for the sake of the Naga people. There is no reason why all other sections too, cannot come as one, he said.
He acknowledged the contribution of all the 60 elected members of the House with their cooperation and participation in both the JLF and the JPWC. He also thanked Speaker Kiyaneilie Peseyie for his initiatives and leadership in the legislators’ forum as well as the joint parliamentary working committee.
Welcoming the recent ‘unification’ of the NSCN (K) and the NNC, the chief minister made an appeal to all sections of the Naga undergrounds to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and speak in one Naga voice. “The organizations and leaders who are working and making sacrifices for the people must listen to the voice of the people”, Rio said.
“The cry of the people is a cry for unity, oneness and lasting peace. The new generation wants to seek a good life through achievements, success and excellence and become full-fledged citizens of the global village,” Rio reminded all in concern. “As leaders of today, we must leave no stone unturned in our endeavor to find permanent peace, through a negotiated settlement that is honorable and acceptable to the people”.
