‘Together towards a safer community’

Dimapur, April 30 (MExN): A one day training on disaster management, under the theme ‘Together towards a safer community,’ was organised by Community Development Specialization students of North East Institute of Social Science & Research (NEISSR) on April 29.  

It was organized in collaboration with Civil Defence and Home Guards, Dimapur, led by Platoon Commander, Thesuohie Angami. Speaking on the occasion, Angami informed that Nagaland lies in the 5th seismic zone of earthquake prone area and highlighted the measures to be taken before, during and after the disaster.  

The trainees were also trained on Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO), Emergency Method of Rescue, Bandaging and Bleeding control along with practical demonstration.  

The chief guest, Sashitemjen Imchen, Entrepreneur, said that deforestation is one of the major causes of disaster and pointed out from statistical facts that Nagaland is covered by 85% landslides and earthquake prone areas which have resulted and will still result in loss of life and property.  

Dr. C.P. Anto spoke on four steps of disaster management i.e. preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation. A press note added that through the programme trainees were equipped with skills and knowledge which are important for social workers in reaching out to the people.
