Parliamentary Secretary for Economics & Statistics and Municipal Affairs R. Tohanba graced Medumneo, the premier festival of Yimchumgrü Nagas held at Chessore village public ground on Monday.
Tohanba called upon the people to take the festival as an opportune time to develop cordial relationship with one another and maintain the spirit of oneness.
He also called upon the Yimchungrü community to make friendship with other tribes and also seek their blessing to move forward.
He further called upon them to maintain peace and tranquility. Referring to the competitive world, he stressed on the need to frame proper plan and at the same time asked the people to have a positive attitude.
He informed the gathering that the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India had recently announced a new National Highway touching Yimchugrü area.
The new NH stretching 200 km is Showuba- Guzunyu- Pughoboto- Aghunato- Shamator- Noklak- Pangsha. He asked the people of Chessore to cooperate with the implementing agency for the successful execution of the new NH.
Earlier, the people of Chessore pleaded the Parliamentary Secretary to construct a rostrum at Chessore village public ground.
Municipal affairs director Zambemo Ngullie, Yimchunger Tribal Council vice president, head GB Chessore village and Fr. Francis Yimso also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was chaired by Chessore Village Council Chairman L. Chuba, while GB K. Lakiumong delivered welcome address.
Significance of Medumneo was given by K. Throngkiuba. A. Akhum, president, Public Forum Chessore Area proposed vote of thanks.
Cultural dance and Medumneo feast also marked the celebration.
