Tohku Emong Mini Hornbill festival celebration underway

Wokha, November 5 (MExN): Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, K Libathung Lotha IAS declared the three days of Tohku Emong Mini Hornbill festival celebration open at local ground, Wokha on November 5.

Bringing the Tokhu Emong mini hornbill festival greetings to the Lotha community, Linathung called for preservation of the age old traditional practices, customs and cultures in order to keep our identity alive, stated a DIPR report. ‘Let us not contemplate of our past events and situations but it is time to move forward with unity, love and forgiveness to build a better and blessed time for our younger generation,’ he stated. 

Reminding the Lotha people that they have are blessed with rich fertile land having the ability to sustain agricultural, horticultural and other varieties of plan growth, he opined that it will result in sustained and consistent high yields of quality agricultural products. “We are also blessed with many natural resources, which will play a important role in the economic development of our district and urged the people to utilise the natural resources to the fullest extent,” he stated. Meanwhile, he also appealed to have accountability to protect and respect environment, because the role of natural resources in very imperative indeed.

The first day of the festival witnessed folk song by Wokha town Akuk Eloe Cultural Troupe, folk dance by N Longidang cultural troupe, Tug-of-War (Khvuro-Zhutssungta) and indigenous cooking competition which was participated by 15 groups from Eloe Ekhung from different colonies, villages and SHGs.
