DIMAPUR, MARCH 3 (MExN): Tokheho Yepthomi, Congress leader form Dimapur – III A/C has questioned the election practices of the NPF in the recently concluded state election. A press note stated that the“NPF leaders have made the mass majority of Nagas poorer and empty by forcing them to accept money during election.” He also said that as long as the Naga electorates continue to elect leaders on the basis of “money power”, there would be no space for qualified and capable young leaders to come into power.
Tokheho asked the NPF media bureau to clarify on the incidents where “NPF candidates were apprehended with lakhs and crores of cash besides arms, ammunition and IMFL.” The Congress leader demanded for the NPF to admit the amount of money distributed to their candidates and the amount that was seized by the Assam Rifles. He also alleged that Nyeiwang Konyak, former Education Minister took Rs. 51 lakhs from the department on February 22. He asked for the NPF media bureau to clarify on the issue.
He stated that the NPF should not be “over-zealous” about their victory in state election. “Leaders come and go and it will keep changing,” he added.
Tokheho also questioned the progress made by the NPF as a “facilitator” on the Naga political issue. He stated that the NPF “owes an explanation to the people as to how many years it requires to be a facilitator” in the aforementioned issue. He alleged that the NPF’s “interpretation of the word facilitator” is meant to “divide the Naga society and the National Workers into various groups and organizations.” He also questioned the CM’s statement that the peace talks were going in the “right direction.”
He further said that after the 2009 parliamentary elections, the Congress leaders did not ask for support from the NPF. He stated that the Government in Delhi had granted Rs 712 crores for implementation of the 6th ROP and Rs 317 crores as special financial assistance. He added that out of the Rs 712 crores, only Rs 47225.74 was given to government employees on demands for grants laid on the floor of the Assembly during Budget Session for 2010-2011.
Tokheho appealed for the Naga people to wake up from their “slumber” and strive for peace, justice and equality. He urged for the people to have an “introspection” and stated that “the corrupted trend of electoral politics in Nagaland seems to upset the NPF because it sheds light on their nefarious activities.”
