Tokuho Awomi Memorial Chess C’ship begins

The Tokuho Awomi Memorial All Nagaland State Open Chess Championship organized by Sumi Chess Association (SCA) got underway here at Tourist Lodge on Tuesday with Superintendent of Police, Kohima, Rajashekar, inaugurating the 4-day championship.  

Altogether 45 players from Kohima, Dimapur, Phek and Wokha districts including veterans, amateurs and school children are taking part in the championship, which has three categories – open, under 17 and under 14.  

Majority of the players are school children from Kohima (Coraggio School, Mezhur HSS and Holy Family School) and Dimapur (Livingstone HSS, Hope Academy, Little Star HSS, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Christian HSS).  

Earlier, in the inaugural programme, president Sumi Chess Association, Hekugha Yeputhomi, who is also honorary secretary of Nagaland Chess Association, highlighted on the features of the championship and organizing secretary, Mughaho Awomi, delivered welcome address.  

Pastor, AG Church, Rev. Thebemo Yanthan, pronounced invocation.
