A torch rally in Bishnupur district of Manipur on Thursday night was carried out against the "inaction" on the part of the state government and the Centre regarding the ongoing violence in Manipur which has been prevailing for more than one year now. The fresh wave of violence that hit Jiribam district is an ample case to show that the government is doing nothing to end the violence, they said.
The torch rally marched on the streets in Bishnupur district voiced out against "inaction" on the part of the state government as well as the Centre to resolve the protracted ethnic conflict in the state.
The torch rally was organised by Bishnupur Apunba Lup (BAL) and marched on the streets at the district headquarters.
While expressing concern over the fresh wave of violence that hit Jiribam district, the participants of the rally alleged that "inaction" on the part of the authorities of the government, particularly security agencies, was behind the escalation of the crisis.
They demanded that the chief minister, the DGP and the security advisor must resign from their respective posts. They also questioned the credibility of the central security forces in dealing with the crisis.
