Torechu calls for quality edu, good moral and unity

Kiphire May 9 (MExN): Stating that Naga society is in transition period towards modern civilization, Parliamentary Secretary for Excise, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Economic and Statistics, T Torechu has emphasized on quality education, good moral based on Christian principles and fostering unity among different sections for all round development.

Torechu said this in his speeches during the inauguration of the three newly government recognized villages in Kiphire district namely Tsuthu and Lihtsaoung on May 7 and Vongva on May 8 respectively. The three villages are among ten newly government recognized village in the district.

In his address to the newly recognized villages, Torechu encouraged them to bring about changes – a change not by words but deeds - by making judicious use of the development funds allotted by the government. He said change should begin from within an individual and further embrace family, village and the society. However, he said this change can come about through acquiring quality education and imbibing good moral based on Christian principles.

Stating that villages in the pre- Christian era were established by offering prayer to inanimate objects, Torechu expressed confidence that the newly established villages, which were established by offering prayers to the living God, would outshine the parent villages in all aspects. He has further advised them to have mutual relationship their parent village as well as with other neighbouring villages for peace to prevail in the society.

Impressed by the dexterity in handicrafts and weaving which were presented to him, Torechu encouraged the villagers to be self reliant by making optimum use of the gifted talents. “Others will not come to help you, you have to help yourself to make a better society,” Torechu advised the villagers.

He has further urged the public to train their children in the right direction to enable them to become responsible citizens in the society.

Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire, Neposo Theluo, who accompanied the Parliamentary Secretary to Tsuthu and Lihtsaoung villages, has advised the public to initiate process for formation of village council and village development board. He has also cautioned against squabbling among the village functionaries but allow them to complete their full term.

He has also recommended the newly recognised villages to for ‘Vision Cell’ to help in planning for future development. Besides, he also urged the village functionaries to have regular meetings. Further, he has appealed the villagers to conserve natural resources for future generation and to inculcate the value of dignity of labour to attain economic stability.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pungro, Tainu, who also accompanied the Parliamentary Secretary to Vongva village, has highlighted on recent government guidelines. She has cautioned against misuse of power vested on the village functionaries but to implement in the right manner for further development of the village.
