Torture slur on GPRN/NSCN

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 7 (MExN): GPRN/NSCN is accused by Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) of torturing an innocent man during the group’s bid to capture those responsible for the kidnap of Hariram Gupta, a prominent trader of Dimapur. Zeliangrong Union (AMN) said Mr. M. Thomas s/o Khanglaibou, a resident of Zeliang Colony, Burma Camp, Dimapur was ‘tortured and harassed’ by four or five members of the GPRN/NSCN in the presence of his wife and children. The incident, the union alleged, occurred at around 10 p.m. on December 26, 2010. Raising concern over the means used to achieve a worthy goal, the union condemned the harassment of an innocent person and the random torture. “The trauma and fear psychosis ridden in the family members of the victim cannot be erased forever,” the apex Zeliagrong body of the three states said through a statement issued by its general secretary K. Poushinglung.  The ZU (AMN) has demanded reimbursement of the expenditures incurred in the medical treatment of Thomas and initiate ‘appropriate action’ against the cadres involved in the act. It expressed hope that such incidences would not occur again in the future.  It may be recalled that the GPRN/NSCN had handed over two accused persons, including one of its own Tatar (Member of Parliament) to the state police in the presence of journalists.
