Mokokchung | June 12
A one day ‘Participatory rural appraisal’ under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) for Ongpangkong (North) Block was held at Town Hall, Mokokchung on the theme – sensitization on behavioral change towards open defecation – on June 11, 2016. The programme, organized by the District Water and Sanitation Mission, was attended by officials from the district administration led by Deputy Commissioner, Sushil Kumar Patel (IAS), Health & Family Welfare department, PHE Department, village leaders etc.
The district ambassador for Swachh Bharat Mission, M Bendangnukshi Longkumer, while speaking at the programme, enlightened the audience on the Swachh Bharat Mission, which is an all Indian movement towards a clean and healthy nation.
Maintaining that the mission is for the whole people and the nation, Longkumer said there is also a competition among the different states to achieve the status of a clean society. He said that achieving the milestone of an ‘open defecation free Mokokchung’ would be a great accomplishment towards the realization of SBM.
Longkumer further pointed out that Mokokchung is often considered as the cleanest town in Nagaland. However, he asserted, there is a lot to be done as there are some areas like open urinal, releasing of septic tanks at odd hours, spitting here and there etc, which call for a behavioral change among the people. In this, he called upon every section of the society led by the village councils, NGOs, church etc to actively participate in the SBM so that the dreams of a clean and healthy society can be achieved within the next few years.
Others who spoke at the programme were DC Mokokchung, Executive Engineer PHED, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Mokokchung. The programme was led by EAC Ongpangkong, Livitoli Sukhalu.
