CHSS students’ visits Nagaland Zoological Park
The environmental education students of Christian Higher Secondary School Dimapur undertook a field study of the Bio-diversity of the Nagaland Zoological Park on March 26, 2011 on the occasion of the National Science Day. The students interacted with Obed Bohovi Swu, officer-in-charge, who highlighted the various aspects of the Park and conservational needs of our Bio-diversity. He opined that unless and until the youth of our generation specially the students realize the importance of our ecological environment and contribute positively towards it, the days are not far away when along with LPG cylinder, one would be required to carry oxygen  cylinder on their back in order to breathe fresh air.
A press note issued by Mir Faruque, teacher, CHSS informed that the students realized that indeed the park has a pretty good numbers of its biotic community even though the park is still in its infancy. “We believe the Park bears the potential of being the “lungs” of our city if developed properly. It is good to know that the Park apart from preserving and enriching the different species of Flora and Fauna of Nagaland, it provides avenues for field studies for those who are interested in life science and ecology. It has a nice little Herbal Park wherein one can study a good number of medical plants,” stated the note.
The students also expressed happiness to know that the government is ironing out a plan to start a Butterfly Park, a Botanical Garden, an exclusive Deer park and additional recreational facilities in near future and added, “We hope and pray that these dream come true.” The students in a gesture of goodwill towards the Park undertook a plantation drive under the guidance of the officer and his team at the end of the study session.
