Pfutsero, February 9: Students' Association of Baptist Theological College (BTC), Pfutsero organised a one-day seminar under the theme: "Towards Social Change" on February 8 at the college.
Kesonyu Yhome, IAS, DC, Kiphire District and Alole Khalo, MA (Mass Communication), Librarian, Pfutsero Government College were the resource persons. Kesonyu Yhome spoke on “Christian responsibility towards social change”. According to a press release issued by Z.K. Pahrii Pou, lecturer, BTC, he emphasized on the importance of employing scientific and secular knowledge in Christian ministry; building up accommodative attitude towards people of other denominations, faiths, and the less unfortunates people in our society; diversifying professional arena by recognising the different gifts of God to each individual; taking the responsibility of providing compassionate social service and taking care of environment.
Meanwhile, Alole Khalo spoke on “Media and social change”. She highlighted the importance of understanding change in our society in order to be effective minister of God. She pointed out that “media construct messages with embedded values” and that “messages are targeted for certain section of people” to fulfill certain purpose/interest. She also stressed on the power of media which influence and shape one's thoughts and actions: political, economic, social and religious.
During the Seminar, DC Kesonyu Yhome also released a book titled "Exploring For a Better World", authored by Liba Hopeson (BD Final Year). The book is available at the following places: Academic Book House, Near Old NST, Kohima (9402435436), and CPC Kohima (8731872459).
