DIMAPUR, JULY 31 (MExN): The NPF Legislature party led by Nagaland Chief Minister, TR Zeliang today selected Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha, Neiphiu Rio as interim President of the Naga People’s Front (NPF).
This decision was taken during a meeting of the NPF Legislature Party which was held on July 31 at the State Banquet Hall, Kohima, at the CM’s residential bungalow.
A press note from the Nagaland CM and NPF Legislature Party Leader, TR Zeliang informed that 36 NPF MLAs including the Chief Minister attended the meeting. MP Neiphiu Rio was a special invitee at the meeting. The press note also cited the NPF Legislature Party’s earlier demand dated July 29, for resignation of Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu as NPF President within 15 days.
On Rio’s selection as interim NPF President, the press note informed that the Lok Sabha MP “shall be empowered with all the functions and prerogatives of the President of the NPF under the Constitution of the NPF, to take decisions in the overall interests of the Nagas with immediate effect.”
The meeting further resolved to empower the interim President to appoint the divisional level office bearers and also take necessary steps for organising a general convention of the NPF Party at the earliest.
It meanwhile appointed a Search Committee comprising of Tokheho Yepthomi, Y Patton, Dr Nicky Kire, EE Pangteang and Imkong L Imchen, to assist the interim President in order to “put in place the State Level Organisational structure of the NPF Party to be approved at the General Convention of the NPF Party.”
It further resolved to “appeal to all the rank and file of the NPF Party to come and join the Government and the majority;” and claimed that “all decisions taken by the NPF party under the leadership of Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu after 13th July, 2017 shall be rendered null and void.”
Affirming these decisions, 36 legislators appended their signatures to the resolution.
