TR Zeliang bats for empowering Naga women

TUENSANG, May 18 (MExN): DAN Chairman & Advisor (Finance), TR Zeliang has called on the six tribes of Eastern Nagaland to come together and unite for a brighter future.  

Unity and Integrity of the people is crucial and the six Tribes of Eastern Nagaland must take positive decision for themselves instead of accepting feedings from outside the area, Zeliang pointed out.  

“The end result of which could prove fatal in the near future,” he added.  

The former Chief Minister was addressing as the Chief Guest on the inaugural day of 4th General Conference of the Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) in Chessore Village, Tuensang on May 17.  

C Kipili Sangtam, the Minister of Power Nagaland was the Guest of Honour.  

Batting for empowerment of Naga Women, Zeliang further maintained that, “Naga women must be empowered economically, socially, educationally and politically.”  

Calling on womenfolk to unite and march towards a future based on equality, he stressed that, “The voices of the youths, women and men are all equally important and no particular section must be discriminated on the basis of their gender.”  

On an optimistic note, the DAN Chairman opined that though the challenges ahead of Nagas are manifold, it can be overcome “with better understanding and proper consultations,” stated a press note from his press secretary.  

On May 16, it further informed that Zeliang inaugurated two Roads under PMGSY in Huker Village, Tuensang in the presence of local Legislator R. Tohanba, Parliamentary Secretary of Municipal Affairs and the public of Tuensang District.  

The two roads, one from Huker to Aiponger measuring 10 Kms and the other from Kephore to Shiponger measuring 11 Kms, were constructed under PMGSY Phase-8 and completed in 2014, it added.  

Speaking at the formal programme held at Huker Baptist Church, Zeliang also called upon the gathering to unite and cooperate with the Government to uplift the economy of the people.  

‘The support and cooperation of the general public is vital for uplifting the economy of the people because MLAs alone cannot bring in complete development’ he stated.  

Commenting on the upcoming road from Dimapur to Pangsha Via Wokha, Zunheboto, Aghunato, Samator and Noklak, already approved and DPR being prepared by NHIDCL, Zeliang maintained that the implementation of this road ‘could boost the economy of the people in the 3 Districts beside the Trade Centre at Pangsha, Indo-Myanmar border and other potential areas.’  

“Render your cooperation for the success of the survey and preparation of DPR at the present stage,” he urged.  

On the Indo-Naga Peace dialogue, Zeliang urged the people to seek the help of the Almighty God for ushering in a new era of permanent peace among the Nagas.  

“We need permanent peace and I urge you all to pray for it,” he said.  

During the two days tour touching the 4 Districts of Wokha, Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Tuensang, Zeliang was accompanied by C. Kipili Sangtam, Minister of Power, R. Tohanba, Parl. Secy of Municipal Affairs and Imtikumzuk, Parl. Secy of IPR and others.
