Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), T.R. Zeliang while delivering the keynote address during the foundation laying stone programme for Peren district headquarter at extended model complex , described Peren district as the ‘Rice Bowl of Nagaland’ with its landmark assets like Intangki National Park, Sainik School at Punglwa, IR Battalion Hqrs. at Saijang, 15 MW Duilumreu MH Project, Green villages etc. He said that the youngest eleventh district of the state is geared up to march forward for a bright future with the vast potentials for development and easy accessibility and connectivity with the neighbouring states of Assam and Manipur. He appealed to the people of Peren District to have one voice, vision, zeal and determination to make Peren Extended Model Complex into a planned modern township of Nagaland.
President of the Zeliangrong Baudi, Dennis Elung, who delivered the welcome address, termed the day as a red letter day for the people of Peren and another milestone on the road of development of the DAN Government. On behalf of Zeliangrong people, he apprised the Chief Minister on the points - Peren district demarcation be made ‘with justice’ honoring the traditional boundaries with Kohima and Dimapur districts; Ntangki National Wild Life Sanctuary be protected; power supply to the district to be up-graded from 33KV to 66KV to cater to modern technology and scientific development in the field of industrialization; a bridge be constructed over river Mongleu to enable the people to reach the district headquarters model township.
“It was after much discussion and public meetings we decided to show our gesture of generosity to our fellow brothers and sisters in Peren district, by giving our land for the model complex, and we do not ask much from the Government but just availability ad vacancy for Peren people in grade four posts in the various departments”, said former Medical Minister and party leader, Neiba Ndang in his speech.
Chief Secretary, Nagaland, Lalhuma also spoke during the occasion. Deputy Commissioner, Peren, N. Mesen chaired the programme while Leshelu Meru offered the vote of thanks. Other dignitaries included political party leaders, village council chairmen and also the Mipui (women) organization.
The inaugural was concluded with a vote of thanks offered by the PDC FC, which is the main board in-charge of construction of the model district headquarter complex of Peren district, and also a concluding prayer by Liangmei Baptist Council President, Dr. Newmai.
