TR Zeliang clarifies on his remark

Kohima, March 1 (MExN): Drawing flak over one of his reported remarks at the recently concluded 3rd session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Leader of Opposition Nagaland TR Zeliang today clarified that his statement was uttered in ‘good vein’ and ‘not intended to hurt sentiments.’


Zeliang in his clarification said that his statement, “Some men can please two girls, but no man can serve two masters” made during the debate on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 at NLA on February 25, was never intended to “hurt the sentiments of any section of the society, particularly the women community.”


The phrase was “uttered in good vein because humorous description of events or topics under discussion is a normal practice which is known to all members of the Legislative Assembly,” he said.


However, “if it has hurt the feelings of any section of the society, I apologize and retract my statement,” he added.


On February 28, Women Organization of the Nationalist Democratic Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has flayed the statement as “derogatory” and “chauvinistic” against women and demanded an a public apology as well as retraction of his remark.”
