Dimapur, September 15 (DIPR): During the visit of Union Minister of State for Cultural Affairs (IC) and MoS for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Mahesh Sharma to Dimapur, the Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang proposed for having a Naga Heritage Museum in Delhi besides other issues.
Zeliang put forward the suggestions to the Union Minister at his private residence in Dimapur on Friday morning, where he hosted breakfast for the visiting officials from Delhi. Governor PB Acharya and the first lady Kavita Acharya also joined the Union Minister and his wife for the breakfast.
Speaking to DPRO Dimapur, Zeliang informed that he has apprised the Union Minister of the need of having a Naga Heritage Museum in Delhi for showcasing the history, collection of books and artifacts of different tribes of Nagaland. “Presently we have one Emporium in Delhi but that is very small and not properly placed,” he observed.
Further, the CM said he has also highlighted the importance of having a World War Museum in Delhi along with the Naga Heritage Museum. Mentioning about the ongoing construction of Academy Hall in Kohima, the CM disclosed that about 70 percent of the work has been completed under SPA.
While regretting the absence of proper Academy Hall in the state, Zeliang informed that he has requested for funds under Art & Culture for completing the unfinished construction towards which the Union Minister advised for submission of proposal. Zeliang also observed the museum in Kohima to be in poor state and said he has mentioned the need of its improvement to the Union Minister.
Meanwhile, the CM disclosed that when Dr. Mahesh Sharma was the then Tourism Minister he had taken the initiative and approved tourism projects to the tune of more than Rs. 200 crore for Nagaland under Swadesh Darshan. In the first phase, tourism projects under Swadesh Darshan was approved and sanctioned for the districts of Peren, Kohima and Wokha while the 2nd phase covered Mokokchung, Mon and Tuensang, he disclosed. A concept note for covering the 3rd phase covering Phek, Zunheboto, Kiphire, and Longleng has been submitted, he said.
