Traffic lights (ITCS) to be introduced at Nagarjan and Holy Cross police points

DIMAPUR, JULY 21 (MExN): Dimapur Police on Friday announced that Improvised Traffic Control System (ITCS) under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) initiative is being installed at Nagarjan Police Point and Holy Cross Police Point and the traffic lights would be made operational soon.

In a public notice, the Office of the Commissioner of Police highlighted the rules and regulations of traffic light signals devised to ensure not only the smooth flow of motor vehicles on the road but also for all road users.

Specifying on the traffic light signal indicators, it said a Red light at the traffic signal means “to stop the vehicle” at the signal immediately behind the stop line. The crossing of stop line/ jumping red light is an offence under section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, it stated.

The Yellow light is a transitional warning signal and indicates that the Green/Red light is about to appear. This signal is used to alert drivers that they need to slow down and prepare to stop, as the red light will be activated soon and vice versa. Yellow light alerts the driver on halt at Red light to prepare to move on Green light.

A Green light means go through the intersection carefully and slowly.

On road markings or lines on the road, Dimapur Police stated that a Stop line is painted before the edge of the road intersection/Zebra crossing. Whenever the traffic light signals to stop, the vehicle must stop just before the stop line. Jumping or crossing of the Stop line is an offence under section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.
