Train derailment: NFR activates helpline numbers

Guwahati, July 18 (MExN): Following the derailment of the 15904 Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express on July 18 near Gonda Junction station, between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations in Uttar Pradesh, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has activated helpline numbers at various stations for assistance.

According to the NFR, the train departed from Chandigarh on Wednesday night and was bound for Dibrugarh when the accident occurred. 
Approximately 4-5 coaches from the front of the train derailed, it said, based on initial report. 

As per information received from North Eastern Railway, there are 2 death and 8 injuries as of now as a result of the derailment, the NFR updated in the evening.

The stranded passengers of the derailed train are being brought by bus to Mankapur station near Gonda and a special train has been arranged for them from Mankapur to Dibrugarh with stoppages enroute, it added. 

As per the PTI news agency, eight coaches of the Express derailed resuting in death of two passengers and injuring 34 others.

Trains diverted 

Meanwhile, as result of the derailment, the route of  Train 15707 Katihar- Amritsar Amrapali Express; 15653 Guwahati Jammu Tawi Amarnath Express; and 15910 Lalgarh Dibrugarh Avadh Assam Express had been diverted.
