Trainees of Master of Social Work attend workshop

Dimapur, February 9 (MExN): A two day workshop and orientation programme was organized at North-East Institute of Social Sciences & Research (NEISSR), Dimapur for the trainees of Master of Social Work on February 4 and 5. The resource persons were Esther Sumi and Lima Ao from Nagaland State Legal Services Authority Dimapur. The first day, workshop began with the welcome address by the Principal, Rev. Dr. C.P. Anto, he stressed on the importance of legal awareness is the basic requirements for the professional social workers as they reach out to the society.  

The resource persons trained the trainees on different Acts & enactment which are important and necessary especially in the context of social work concerned in Nagaland.   The workshop started with an illustrative explanation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, which describes the protection of women from domestic violence such as physical abuse, verbal abuse, economic abuse and marital abuse. Other acts such as Illegal Trafficking, Juvenile Justice Act, Right to Information Act, Special Marriage Act, Child Labour, and Cyber related Crimes were also explained to the trainees.   The second day, the trainees were taught about different Acts on Human Rights and Motor Vehicles Act. During the workshop, the trainees also conducted a mock drill on how a Lok-Adalat or People’s Court settles a dispute between two conflicting parties. Another mock-drill was also conducted on how to file an RTI to a Public Information Officer (PIO) if a person has been denied of his/her Rights or opportunities.   Thekingpila Sangtam gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the trainees and the Management of the Institute. Thus, the two-day workshop on Legal Literacy was a successful one and the trainees of NEISSR were made aware of different Laws and Acts prevalent in the society.
