Training centre to empower silkworm farmers in Nagaland

Dimapur, January 23 (MExN): Advisor, Department of Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs, Government of Nagaland, Zhaleo Rio inaugurated the State Sericulture Farmers Training Center at Dhansiripar Dimapur on January 23.


A DIPR report stated that addressing the gathering, Zhaleo Rio termed the day as a red letter day particularly for the silkworm farmers as training institutes imparts the right knowledge to the farmers and make them aware about the different steps of rearing silkworms.


With the coming up of  the State’s sericulture Farmer's Training Center at Dhansiripar, Zhaleo mentioned that the residents of Dhansiripar were lucky and fortunate and reminded the farmers to utilise the funds and infrastructures provided by the Government in a judicious manner.


While encouraging the farmers to take up sericulture as family industry, the Advisor informed that the training center would focus on plantation maintenance, nursery production and its techniques, silkworm rearing and management technique, silk spinning and technology, silk designing and product diversification. 


He asked the sericulture officials for drawing out calendar of activities while stating that the main objective of Sericulture department was to uplift the economy of the poor under privilege and targeted beneficiaries.

 

 On the occasion, Zhaleo Rio also encouraged the silkworm farmers to continue to work hard and asked the beneficiaries of Dhansiripar to inform him if they do not get their due entitlement. Rio also assured posting a Sericulture officer for the benefit of silkworm farmers.   


Secretary, Sericulture and Excise, Orenpomo Kikon who chaired the programme termed the day as an achievement for Sericulture department. He advised the Village Council of Dhansiripar for taking necessary caution so that no encroachment takes place in the farm.


Delivering the key note address, Director Sericulture, Chubameren lauded the farmers of Dhansiripar describing them as most committed and dedicated and advised them to continue working with the same spirit. He observed that in future the training center has the scope to be upgraded to a certificate course.


Joint Director in his technical report said that the project comprising of administrative block, practical room, dormitory, kitchen, rearing house, guest house and faculty room was constructed at the cost of  Rs 4 crore 24 lakh.
Short speech was also delivered by Chairman DVC, S Chuba GB (HQ). Additional Director, Sericulture Department, Wapang Lemtur proposed the vote of thanks. Besides farmers, the programme was attended by Sericulture Officers, SDO (C) Dhansiripar, neighbouring villagers, chairman Handloom and Handicrafts, trainees, GBs and others.
