Training on concept of peace and peace building

Dimapur, March 18 (MExN): Peace Channel, a youth peace movement of the third millennium aiming at organizing youth as peace lovers, peace makers and peace promoters through information, formation and transformation, organised a training on ‘Concept of Peace and Peace Building’ at Trinity High School, Thahekhu Village, Dimapur on March 17.  

Altogether, 50 students along with the peace animators of the school, teacher in charge and 4 teacher trainees from Bosco B.Ed College participated in the session, informed a press release from Peace Channel.  

Addressing the Peace Club members, Patrick W Tungoe (peace activist) stated peace is an occurrence of harmony characterized by the lack of violence, conflict and the freedom from fear of violence. “Peace building is a process where the youths can facilitate the establishment of durable Peace and prevents the recurrence of violence by addressing the root cause and effects of conflict through reconciliation and strengthening the society’s capacity to manage conflict in non-violent ways for a positive change,” he said.  

Patrick further elucidated that every individual and collective effort is important to promote peace in the society, where the youths can intervene the conflict situation at the right time by preventing and defusing arising or future conflict and by promoting sustainable peace. He also challenged the students to take peace as their daily responsibilities and promote peace with self, people, and nature.  

Later, Angukali Chishi, Dimapur district coordinator, Peace Channel initiated ice breaking session with some light games and songs and ended the session with a group discussion.  

Some of the participants shared that to promote peace and harmonious living in the society one has to achieve Peace within oneself as quoted by Mahatma Gandhi, “Be the Change that you wish to see in the world,” according to the release.
