Training of DLMT on Electoral Literacy Clubs underway

Kohima, September 6 (MExN): Two-day training for District Level Master Trainers (DLMT) on Electoral Literacy Club was conducted by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Kohima from September 6 and 7.  

DIPR report stated that altogether 16 DLMTs from all the districts attended the training.  

In the opening message, CEO Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha addressed the trainees and stressed on the need to create electoral awareness among the youth, especially those that are yet to enroll in the electoral roll, to educate them on the electoral process so that when they attain the right to vote, they will exercise it responsibly. He further expressed the need to set up Electoral Literacy Clubs in schools and colleges across the state to act as a major medium for spreading electoral awareness among the youths.  

The resource persons for the training are Keneilesa, Associate Professor & SLMT (State Level Master Trainer), Woshamo, Research Associate & SLMT and Mannu Yadav as the visiting officer SVEEP, ECI (Election Commission of India).  

The DLMTs (District Level Master Trainers) will be responsible in imparting training and helping in setting up of Electoral Literacy Clubs in their respective Districts.  

The main objectives of the Electoral Literacy Clubs are:

1. Educate target population about voter registration, electoral process and related matters by engaging them in hands on experience

2. EVM and VVPAT familiarization and education about robustness and integrity of the electoral process using EVMs

3. To harness the potential of ELC members for carrying out electoral literacy in communities

4. ELCs will facilitate voter registration for its members as they become 18.
