Zunheboto, January 31: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Nagaland University, conducted a daylong training programme at Phuye Old village in Atiozu block in Zunheboto district. In the morning session, Edenly Chishi SMS (Horticulture) spoke on the economic importance of Kiwi fruit.
She informed about the export potential of the fruit due to its high nutritive and medicinal value and encouraged the farmers to go for large-scale cultivation as well as to produce good quality planting material of Kiwi that fetches a higher price than other horticultural crops. Farmer’s scientist interaction regarding pest and disease of horticultural crops was also done to reduce insect pest infestation.
In the afternoon session, Mr. Visakho Shunyu SMS (GPB) imparted training on the Package of practices for High Quality Protein Maize, where assurance was also given to the farmers that HYV of maize seeds will be provided by the KVK Zunheboto for this coming season. Training on true Potato seeds was also given to the farmers which were followed by distribution of TPS in small quantity to be tried in the field. All together 54 farmers attended the training programme.
