
Wokha: A total of 101 farmers from fifteen different villages of the Wokha district, KVK and ATMA officials attended the awareness cum training programme on protection of plant varieties and Farmers’ Right Act, 2001. KVK Wokha, ICAR, Nagaland Centre conducted the programme at Satsuphen on March 28.
Dr. Moa who chaired the programme besides welcoming the gathering shared the objective of organizing the programme. The Project Director, ATMA, Dr. Monchan Shitiri was the chief guest who shared the importance of protecting the indigenous crop varieties and encouraged the farmers to register their varieties to avoid exploitation of the local varieties. The resource person was Bendangla Imsong who explained at length the benefits of registering the local varieties and the procedures for registration. Registration forms were provided to all the farmers and the KVK and ATMA officials helped in filling up the forms.
The farmer’s response was very good and majority submitted the filled form on the training day itself. Some farmers took the forms with them who will be submitting the filled forms by April 4 to KVK office. The programme ended with vote of thanks proposed by Dr.Sanjay Kr. Ray
