Training for employees on PDS Supply Chain Management

A 3-day training on the Public Distribution System’s Supply Chain Management for employees of the Food & Civil Supplies Department, Nagaland started on November 20 at the Department Directorate in Dimapur. Resource persons from the Central Project Monitoring Unit, Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution is conducting the training to enhance the employees’ familiarity with the nationwide mission computerizing the Public Distribution System from source to point of sale, also known as end-to-end computerization of the Targeted Public Distribution System.
Besides better acquainting the employees with the changes affected, the training will place special emphasis on depot management and Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS).
Transparency in the distribution system is at the core of the mission by introducing checks and accountability.
F & CS Director Asangla Imti said that the department has almost achieved “end-to-end computerization.” However, she added that the department has still to cover a “few critical areas,” which she said will be covered by the trainers from Delhi.
“We’re a crucial link in the mission objective. If we flunk, the chain will break,” she told the employees at the inaugural session.
The resource persons’ team comprised Sumit Kumar, Piyush Kanal, Kumaran Murugesan and Devraju Origanti.
As key entity in the supply chain, Murugesan said that the department has a role to ensure transparency. He emphasised that what the department does will get reflected in the entire supply chain operation as well as centrally.
