Kohima, July 26 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department in coordination with National Institute Disaster Management (NIDM), New Delhi is organising a three-day training programme on ‘Incident Response System’, Basic & Intermediate from July 25 to 27at ATI, Kohima.

The key target audiences for the training are personnel who are holding important administrative positions and/or are likely to be involved in incident/emergency management. The resource person is Shekher Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor, Division of Disaster Response & Recovery, NIDM, Delhi.

Johnny Ruangmei, Joint CEO, NSDMA in a press release stated that as large number of agencies work in responding to disasters, there is always a possibility of lack of coordination amongst them which often leads to increase in cost of managing a disaster. If the response is planned and the stakeholders are trained, it will be smooth and effective with reduced coordination issues. Keeping this in view, Government of India identified the Incident Command System (ICS) as the most effective and systematic response mechanism. GoI adopted the ICS and named it the Incident Response System (IRS). The objective of the IRS is to pre-designate officers to perform various duties as well as train them in their respective roles.

The Incident Response System broadly refers to a management system, which can be used for any type of incident irrespective of its nature, size and magnitude. The system provides scope to organize various functions, tasks and staffs within the overall response process while emphasizing greater coordination and communication among different organizations involved. Through IRS, the main intention is to transform the confusion during the early stage of an emergency situation into a well-managed response process by providing answers to vital questions.

Attending the inaugural programme Abhijit Sinha, IAS, Principal Secretary (Home) gave the inaugural address. The brief programme was chaired by Johnny Ruangmei, Joint CEO, NSDMA and vote of thanks was given by Khrolou Koza Lohe, Assistant Manager (Training & Education), NSDMA.
