Kohima, October 21 (MExN): A one-day sensitization and training on HIV and AIDS was held on October 19, for the officials from Tourism Department, Tour Operators and Hotel Associations on HIV and AIDS at the conference hall of Directorate of Tourism, Kohima. The training was jointly organized by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society and Directorate of Tourism, Nagaland.
While giving the welcome address, K.T Thomas, Addl. Director & HoD, Department of Tourism encouraged the participants to take this opportunity and get the maximum out of the training and urged NSACS to also utilize this platform for creating awareness about HIV and AIDS.
The sessions for the training included current HIV scenario and various services available in the state, basics of HIV and AIDS and stigma and discrimination, roles expected from tourism officials, hotel associations and tour operators for prevention of HIV and AIDS, and a discussion on the need for strengthening of Joint Working Group for Youth on HIV and AIDS. The resource persons included Dr. Vezokholu Theyo, Deputy Director (M&E) NSACS, Dr. Mehokhu Zao, SMO, ART Plus Centre, NHAK, Metevinuo Sakhrie, Joint Director (IEC) NSACS and Tarepnokcha Jamir, Deputy Director (MST) NSACS.
The training concluded with a vote of thanks by Chongkoi Khaming Asst. Director (MM), NSACS. NSACS in a press release informed that altogether 51 participants attended the programme which included officials from the Directorate of Tourism, Nagaland Tourism Association and Nagaland Hotels and Restaurant Association.
