Training on HIV and Syphilis testing and Project AHANA conducted

Kohima, June 28 (MExN): Under the aegis of National Health Mission, the District AIDS Prevention & Control Unit (DAPCU), Kohima and Project AHANA jointly organized one day training for district resource team on HIV and Syphilis testing held at the CMO’s conference hall, Kohima on June 27.  

The objective of the training was to build the capacity of the ANMs and Block Program Manager to conduct WBFPT of HIV and POC syphilis and to scale up coverage of HIV and syphilis screening at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) and Sub Centre (SC).  

Mhonthung Tungoe, Project Officer Ahana, oriented the trainees on Project AHANA. He stated that the project aims to create a cadre of trained personnel in the public health system which will eventually saturate HIV and syphilis screening from health facilities down to the village level. He also mentioned the overall goal of the project is to increase the uptake of PPTCT services in the project area.  

Aoyangla, Counselor (ICTC), Kohima oriented the trainees on the basics of HIV/AIDS. She also highlighted the significance of pre and post test counseling. She further stressed on the importance of maintaining confidentiality of the patients. The participants of the training included ANMs of all health units under CMO, Kohima and all Block Program Manager.  

Dimapur: In Dimapur, the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) and Project AHANA organized one day training for District Resource Team on HIV and Syphilis Testing at CMO’s Conference Hall, Dimapur on June 26.   The objective of the training was to build the capacity of the ANM and Block Program Manager to conduct WBFPT of HIV and POC syphilis screening for scaling up coverage of HIV and Syphilis screening at the PHC and SC level, stated a press note.  

Sevi, Project Officer (AHANA) oriented the trainees on Project AHANA. She stated that the project aims in creating a cadre of trained personnel in the public health system which eventually saturates HIV and Syphilis screening health facilities down to the village level.  

Mecievinuo, DPO DAPCU Dimapur as resource person oriented the trainees on the basics of HIV/AIDS. She also highlighted the significance of pre and post test counseling. She further stressed on the importance of maintaining confidentiality of the patients.  

Yanger Aier, M and E Asst., DAPCU trained the trainees on the procedure of reporting and briefed them on the Report Format. Demonstration of HIV and Syphilis screening was also conducted.  

Dr. K. Vikato Kinimi, Chief Medical Officer Dimapur highlighted the importance of HIV testing at the earliest and considered the ANMs to be the back bone of the activity at the periphery level. He also encouraged the ANMs to work as active health service providers even towards HIV and Syphilis screening. He also requested the ANMs to stress on counseling of adherence to ART and save sex to prevent HIV/ AIDS.  

The participants of the training included ANMs of all Health Units under CMO Dimapur and all the Block Program Managers.
