Peren, May 23 (MExN): ATMA Peren block conducted one day training on cultivation practices of Large Cardamom at Peren village on May 21. Resource person, Vinatoli BTM dwelt right from selection of site till harvesting. Stressing on the importance of maintaining spacing at the time of planting, she reminded the farmers that proper spacing is very important for healthy growth of the crop which eventually will lead to bountiful harvest. Timely gap filling, weeding, irrigation, mulching and beheading of shade trees regularly at a height of 4-5m are some other important aspects which need to be followed for successful harvest of the crop, she added. Farmers were also trained on the method of Curing, another important post –harvest operation to remove moisture from the freshly harvested capsules which contains up to 85% moisture.
The programme was chaired by Mapeuheile Ndang AO & Convener, where she also demonstrated on nursery raising of tomato. Around 64 farmers participated in the training programme.
