Kohima, October 6 (MExN): A two-day hands-on training on Molecular Biology was held at the Biotechnology Hub, Nagaland Science & Technology Council (NASTEC) Kohima on October 3 and 4. A total of 15 Masters’ Degree students from Kohima Science College, Jotsoma attended the training session.
This program was jointly organized by NASTEC and National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) under Chemical Ecology Program (NER). The Resource Persons were research scholars from NCBS Bangalore.
The students were introduced to the field of molecular biology and its techniques. Basic techniques like DNA extraction from plant source and blood, primer designing for PCR, sample preparation and agarose gel electrophoresis were taught.
Operational and functional aspects of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine were taught to the students. The students were trained to handle the machine individually and develop programs for their own experiments.
“Through this training, the students were given the opportunity to get familiarized with the latest trends in the field of molecular biology, and its equipments thus making them capable of conducting and designing their own experiments,” Dr. Nesatalu Hiese, Scientist D stated in a press release.
