
Bhandari, January 12 (DIPR): A one day seminar and training on Mushroom cultivation and Soap making was held for women Self Help Groups (SHG) at LBES Mission Centre Vankhosung, on January 11.
The trainer and the resource person Mhalo Tungoe, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) said that the purpose of the self help groups is to generate income for the women folk in order to help them become financially independent which in the long run will give them opportunity for economic self reliance.
Mushroom, which has nutritional security, is grown in many parts of the state of Nagaland, and the most favourable period is the months of April to May and September to October she said. Climate, temperature, environment, various kits, materials, steps and harvesting of mushroom were demonstrated. Characteristics of poisonous and non poisonous mushrooms, mushroom reaction with other items of food etc were also explained to the participants.
Organic Soap making technique by using different locally available fruits and vegetables and their economic advantages were also explained by the resource person. Mushroom Spawns and kits were distributed free of cost to the participants for group cultivation.
