
Daporijo, June 29 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, PB Acharya, flagged off the five-day Farmers’ Training Programme on Horticulture Crops with special emphasis on Naga Mircha (Naga King Chilli) at Ligu Village, Daporijo, Upper Subansiri district, Arunachal Pradesh. According to a press release, the training programme is being conducted by the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) Medziphema, Nagaland and the Murmenrijo Welfare Consumer Cooperative Society, Daporijo (MWCCS). The Naga Chilli is one of the hottest chillies in the world and is very popular in Nagaland. Governor Acharya stated that the dream of being a developed country can only be attained when grassroots also progress. Acharya, who travelled 12 hours by road to reach Ligu village further insisted that “Roads are the lifeline of the people”. Pilum Ligu, Chairman of MWCCS chairing the programme extended appreciations to the CIH and the government of Nagaland, Horticulture Department for taking the initiative and imparting training programme – the first of its kind in the region. He further called upon all the Women SHGs to take maximum benefit for the welfare of society. During the technical session, the main resource was Senti Longchar (DK), Horticulture Officer, Nagaland, who spoke on the importance and scope of Naga Chilli cultivation and its value addition in rural areas for their livelihood. Shisarenla Aier, Training in-charge, CIH, Medziphema, also trained the Women SHGs in Aloe vera soap making and different pickle making for additional income.
