Training on bamboo handicraft for artisans

DIMAPUR, JULY 10 (MExN): India EXIM Bank Mumbai in collaboration with RGVN, Guwahati, successfully conducted a 30 days long training cum workshop program on ‘Bamboo Craft Design Development for 25 local artisans’ held from May 30 to July 3. 

On account of the successful culmination of the program - a valedictory function was held on July 7 at the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Center conference Hall, Chumukidima with Taliwati Longchar, Jt. Director, MSME, Govt of India, as guest of honour. 

In his speech, the chief guest, stressed on the need for continued skills level up-gradation of the Craftsman and improvement in product design with application of innovative ideas and approaches that would ensure to remain competitive in the supply and demand market and also emphasized the importance of product and design patent for necessary legal protection. 

He also highlighted various service facilities and schemes especially under the ministry of MSME Govt of India for entrepreneurAs and artisans cluster. He further apprised the participants some critical challenges faced by local entrepreneurs in Nagaland, such as poorly feed power supply, institutional infrastructure and services especially inaccessibility of credit services for availing start-up capital support from financial institutions. However he said, as a remedy to address this issue the State Government has adopted a policy through the amendment of SARFAESI Act in the state.

Sandhya Arekar of India EXIM bank, Mumbai, explained about the importance of the training/workshop as a way forward step taken by the bank to build quality craftsmanship of the artisans in the state of Nagaland. According to her this program would serve as a starting point towards building up a pool of local skilled craftsman who would eventually be able to produce high quality craft product items that would be comparably at par even at the international market platform. She also impressed the local craft artisans the need to be educated about digital online marketing platform and asked the artisans and entrepreneurs to stay relevant with the technology that provides a versatile platform for marketing of their products. 

Speaking on behalf of the Trainee Artisans, Runoyhu Keppen shared about the enriching experiences and the set of skills they learnt together during the course of training. While extending special gratitude to the organizers for the support, he also expressed the good feeling atmosphere among the trainees during the entire course of the training and further acknowledged the trainers, Ruovilhoukhu and Rokolhoukho Thorie for all the technical inputs and hand holding support and others for attending all their needs and requirements.
